Activist's page

Welcome to the activist's page. Here you'll find tips on letter writing, grass roots advocacy, and other creative ideas for supporting the persecuted church.

Also, each month we include one or two sample letters that you can re-write, with addresses so you can send them and speak out for those who are oppressed for their Christian faith.

Being an activist is simple:

  1. Read our advocacy tips
  2. Be aware of the issues
  3. Read our sample letter
  4. Create your own letter and post it

October campaign : Indian persecution of Christians

Please show your support for Christians in India who are being persecuted, by using the sample letter below to write to teh Indian High Commission. You could also send a letter to your local Indian Consulate or to any politicians you think should be responding to this issue.

Sample letter... please re-write this in your own words, and post to the address provided. If you live outside of Australia, address your letter to the Foreign Minister in your own country.

Her Excellency Smt. Sujatha Singh
High Commissioner
High Commission of India
3 Moonah Place,
Yarralumla, ACT 2600

Your Excellency,,

I have been greatly distressed in recent weeks by reports of organised hunting of Christians by Hindu fundamentalists in several Indian states especially in Kandhamal District, Orissa.

These atrocities and murders, and the arson of thousands of homes and more than 150 churches and schools have been reported. It is horrific that this can occur in a democratic nation.

I ask you, please, to forward my concern, and my appeal for the following actions to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who gave assurances at the India-EU Summit on September 29th 2008 that attacks on Christians would be stopped.

I support the following actions which are the recommendations of the All India Christian Council:

The deployment of sufficient units of India’s army to halt the violence in Kandhamal District, Orissa and where needed elsewhere.

The arrest and trial in appropriate state courts of those Hindu fundamentalist leaders whose inflammatory remarks triggered this action against Christians.

That Manmohan Singh, India’s Prime Minister, lead a delegation to visit victims of violence in Orissa.

That the Presidential Order of 1950, which gave privileges to members of “scheduled castes” be amended to include “Dalit Christians and Muslims” who are currently excluded.

Yours respectfully and sincerely,
